Driving While Impaired

In the year 2000, the National Highway Transportation Safety Board cited the cost of alcohol-related car accidents was nearly fifty-one billion dollars. DWI, either driving while impaired or driving while intoxicated, most certainly includes driving while under the influence of alcohol, but along with alcohol, this charge includes driving under the influence of legal or illegal drugs and prescriptions. The sad truth of the matter is that these crimes affect nearly one third of

Americans in their lifespan.

Have you been involved in an accident with someone who was driving while impaired? Contact us, and our lawyers will fight for the justice you, as the victim, deserve today!

Over forty percent of all automotive traffic involved fatalities involved someone who was driving while impaired. This offence is frighteningly all too commonplace. In fact, the National Highway Transportation Safety Board estimates nearly one hundred twenty million instances of impaired driving occur annually, however, less than one percent of these death defying car rides are actually prosecuted. While driving under the influence of alcohol is certainly a problem, taking medication, prescriptions, or illicit drugs and getting behind the wheel is just as illegal. When taken with alcohol, many prescriptions, even if legally obtained at a pharmacy or doctor’s office, can be deadly behind the wheel.

Some suggestions to curb the epidemic of driving while impaired in the United States include:

  • Sobriety checkpoints
  • Immediate suspension licenses for impaired drivers
  • Lowering of maximum blood alcohol content of drivers
  • Concerted public awareness campaigns in cities and states
  • No tolerance for alcohol is system of drivers under the age of 21

While community, police, state, and federal regulations may attempt to curb impaired driving, the only real solution is personal responsibility on behalf of all drivers. Adherence to alcohol related driving laws is not only for others safety, but the safety of drivers and their passengers who often are friends and family. The consequences of driving while impaired is not worth the risk, and for victims of this crime, justice is deserved. Our lawyers can expertly aid in the investigating and gaining compensation for victims of impaired driving.
