Seat Belt Safety

Seat Belt Safety

Improper use and failure to wear a seat belt while driving in a motor vehicle contributes to more fatalities than any other single traffic safety-related behavior. According to a recent study from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, of the 31,910 vehicle occupants killed in crashes in one year, 60% were not wearing seat belts.

Have you or someone you know been injured in an auto accident because of improper seat belt safety precautions? If so, contact one of our auto accident lawyers in your area today!

Seat belt use is the most effective precautions drivers can take to help save lives and reduce injuries due to an accident on US roadways.

Over a period of 26 years, seat belts helped save 135,000 lives and 3.8 million injuries were prevented, saving $585 billion in medical and other costs. If every driver and passenger had worn seat belts during that time, almost 315,000 deaths and 5.2 million injuries could have been prevented, which totals to $913 billion in expenses.

Data suggests that education alone is not getting through to young people, especially males ages 16 to 25. Young drivers do not believe they will get into accidents let alone be injured or killed in an accident. Unfortunately, they are the nation's highest-risk drivers, with more drunk driving, more speeding, and more crashes.
