Cell Phone Car Crash

It's a rarity to find a person who doesn't own a cell phone in the twenty-first century. Car crash injuries, and damages, are often caused by a person using their cell phone while driving. It is estimated there were 2.4 billion cell phone owners in 2008, and there were 1,000 new cell phone plans bought every minute. Many states prohibit the use of a cell phone while driving because of the potential for a car crash. The Human Factors and Ergonomics Society reported that drivers talking on cell phones have an 18 percent slower reaction time to brake lights on other cars, and they take 17 percent longer to regain the speed they lost when they braked.
