I got into a car accident a few weeks ago. He believes that it was my fault, but I think that it was his fault. I have made a claim with my insurance company and I want his insurance company to pay. What should I know about negotiating a car accident claim with the other drivers insurance company? Do I have to convince them it is his fault, and how much compensation can I expect to get?

At this stage of the dispute, much of the negotiation will probably be handled by your respective insurance companies. Generally, each insurance company will appoint a representative or attorney to act in the best interests of its insured. The two insurance companies will each attempt to discern liability, and if there is a disagreement, may submit the case to arbitration. However, if you plan to bring a civil suit against the driver of the other vehicle, you should contact a car accident attorney who can give you information about how to sue the other party and how to negotiate a legal settlement with that company or how to prepare a case if the issue goes to trial.
