Auto Insurance Agencies Include Protection for Pets
Recently, at least four major American auto insurers have added coverage to their plans, which will protect pets in the case of an automobile accident. At no additional cost to the customer, these companies offer $500 to $1,000 for the injuries or accidental death of dogs, cats and other domesticated animals.
Progressive, the third largest insurance provider in the nation was the first to offer pet insurance in the summer of 2007. Since then, other companies have latched onto the idea. Because there are nearly 196 million licensed drivers in the United States, and several hundred insurance companies- the competition is fierce to get a policy holder’s business. This offering was one way for Progressive and other insurance companies to set themselves apart.
Because dogs, cats and other domesticated animals are often important family members, thousands of policy owners were excited to hear about the additional coverage for no additional cost. Losing a pet in a car accident can be traumatic, and paying veterinarian bills for injuries can be expensive. For this reason, many choose to add the additional coverage onto their insurance plans.
