Press Release, Aug 10, 2006

The Chino Police Department was notified by the San Bernardino Sheriff’s Department that off duty Chino Police Officer Marlon Menendez had been involved in a single vehicle auto accident near the intersection of Mariposa and Ranchero Roads in Hesperia. Officer Menendez was transported by air ambulance to Loma Linda University Medical Center, where he succumbed to his injuries.

“The City of Chino has lost a family member, and we are grieving. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the Menendez family,” said Chino Mayor Dennis Yates.

Officer Menendez had an excellent employment history with the City of Chino, where he began his career in law enforcement as a Police Cadet in January 2001. In July 2003, Marlon was chosen to attend the Police Academy, graduating in December of the same year. At that time, Marlon was promoted to Police Officer. Most recently, Officer Menendez was appointed to the SWAT team, where he earned the trust and respect of fellow Officers for his professionalism and dedication.

Services for Officer Menendez are pending.
