Long Beach Police DUI Saturation Patrol Proves Effective

Long Beach Police Department, Jan 26, 2007

The Long Beach Police Department Traffic Section conducted a DUI saturation patrol throughout Long Beach.  The saturation patrol operated from 4 p.m. Friday night until 2 a.m. Saturday morning.  During the ten-hour operation nine additional police officers patrolled the City looking for impaired drivers.  During the operation 2 people were arrested, 7 cars were impounded because the drivers were unlicensed, and 54 drivers were issued traffic citations.

DUI saturation patrols are a vital component in the fight against impaired drivers.  Nationally, impaired driving caused by alcohol or drugs causes one death every 30 minutes.  Saturation patrols have been proven to reduce impaired driving related collisions by removing these drivers from our streets.  The average American has a 30% chance of being killed or injured by an impaired driver.

Funding for this program was provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety.
