Troopers Injured in Crash

At approximately 11 PM on Saturday, May 19, 2007, Trooper Ronda Hendee, Trooper Greg Taylor and Auxiliary Lieutenant Gene Lebrenz were struck and injured by a vehicle while working a traffic fatality on Interstate 275 southbound, south of 54th Ave North, in Pinellas County. The driver of the vehicle that struck our troopers appears to have been under the influence.

Even though the fatality crash scene was well protected and lit by many emergency vehicles, this speeding vehicle struck one patrol car, sending it and the errant vehicle careening into the scene being worked. The troopers and auxiliary trooper were on foot and were struck by the vehicles and thrown to the roadway. All three were transported to Bayfront Hospital where they all have been admitted.

All three are listed in stable conditions.

Members of the Troop C Auxiliary are helping local Troop C troopers staff the hospital, where they will remain until all are released.

Please continue to keep these FHP members in your thoughts and prayers.

UPDATE: Troopers Rhonda Hendee, Greg Taylor and Auxiliary Lieutenant Gene Lebrenz are all doing well. Trooper Taylor and Lt. Lebrenz were released from the hospital on Wednesday. This crash serves as a reminder of the dangerous task our men and women of the patrol face everyday.
