CityofBoston.gov, Feb 16, 2007

Mayor Thomas M. Menino is urging residents and commuters to plan ahead as snow is expected. He also asked residents to check on elderly neighbors, to contact emergency services for the homeless and urged using public transportation in tomorrow’s commute.

“Forecasters are predicting snow, sleet and rain in tonight’s forecast and I urge people to plan ahead. Winter has returned,” Mayor Menino said. “Our sanders and snow plows will be out on our streets, ready for whatever the storm may bring.”

City officials will be monitoring the traffic to keep traffic flowing smoothly. Mayor Menino also urged residents to think about public safety during snow storms and reminded residents of the following:

  • Due to the timing of this particular storm overnight and throughout the day tomorrow, we urge residents to leave their cars at home and use public transportation
  • Do not park cars within 20 feet of an intersection. Parking too close to intersections can restrict access for emergency vehicles. This carries a $40 fine and cars may be towed.
  • Shovel out fire hydrants close to your home.
  • Space savers must be removed from the street 48 hours after a storm.
  • Boston EMS also reminds people to practice caution when shoveling and clearing ice as it may be dangerous for those with a heart condition.
